WEEK 12: DO CIRCLE WEEDING AT DURIAN PLOT 

Another Friday has came and this week I have another interesting thing to share about to make up last week activity that being held up due to haze. In this week, the activity that been held are Cicrle weeding. I could not complete the pesticide task (wood vinegar) because on the day of the incident, it rained heavily. Thus we are not encouraged to do this activity because we want to save costs

On 21st June 2024 morning, as usual we gathered at our roll call around 6.30 am for our morning fitness and headed to Agrotech assembly place for our weekly roll call.Here I will explain what activities I do.

OBJECTIVE	To efficiently remove unwanted vegetation (weeds) from a specific area, ensuring minimal disruption to the soil and surrounding plants by using a circular weeding method.
NATURE OF WORK DONE
TIME	ACTIVITY
7.30-8.00 am	1. All part 3 student gathered at the parking lot. After that, class repsentative took the attendance. All student do warmup activities before go to Agrotech. 2. All student gathered to AgrotechPlantation Site by classes. 3. Song the Negaraku, Wawasan Setia Warga UiTM and Planter’s Song.
8.00-8.20 AM	Take the equipment wanted to used to have done activities in the durian plot.
8.30a.m – 10.30AM	Move to the durian plot and started the activity until finish.

• For this activity I have done 6 trees to do the circle weeding activity while my partner did 3 trees.

Tree 10	Tree 10	After doing the circle weeding, the weeds that I pulled need to be rearranged around the durian tree to be used as mulch.  My suggestion for this tree is to focus on fertilizing and weeding the circle to avoid pest attacks.
Tree 9	Tree 9	This is a Musang King type of durian tree, after circle weeding I need to mulch each tree so that the weed is not easy to grow again.  My recommendation for this durian tree is to drip heavily in terms of fertilizing
Tree 8	Tree 8	My suggestion for this tree is to focus on the use of fertilizers so that this tree can grow and produce flowers quickly.
Tree 6	Tree 6	This tree is quite overgrown with weeds, my suggestion for this tree is to heavily use weed poison so that weed can be controlled for the future.
Tree 5	Tree 5	The purpose of pruning durian branches is to increase the circulation of air and sunlight to the inside of the tree, which helps to increase the production of quality fruit. My suggestion is to focus on mowing the grass around the durian tree in order to prevent nutritional competition
Tree 4	Tree 4	My recommendation for this tree is also to focus on fertilization. Correct fertilization can increase the quantity and quality of durian fruit produced. Additional nutrients help the formation of flowers and fruits, as well as increase the taste and size of the fruit.
Tree 1		This is a dead tree. I don't know the variety of this dead tree, I also don't dare to clean this area because it is full of thorns, I can't be near this area because I have eczema. My suggestion for this tree, I would like the Supervisor of this Jasin farm to buy a quality new durian tree from the best nursery in the Melaka area.

THE BENEFITS OF CIRCLE WEEDING IN THE DURIAN AREA

• Reduce Competition for Nutrients and Water: Weeds that grow around durian trees compete with the trees for water and nutrients. By eliminating weeds, the durian tree can obtain more resources needed for its growth.
• Improve Plant Health: Weeds are often a haven for pests and diseases. By controlling weeds around the durian tree, the risk of pest and disease attacks can be reduced, so that the durian tree remains healthy.
• Improving Air and Light Circulation: Removing weeds around the base of the durian tree helps improve air circulation and sunlight penetration into the soil. This is important to reduce humidity that can cause fungal diseases and to increase photosynthesis.

CONCLUSION

Circle weeding in durian plots is beneficial for reducing nutrient and water competition, improving plant health, improving air and light circulation, facilitating maintenance access, reducing the risk of fire, increasing fertilization effectiveness, and supporting root growth. This technique helps to ensure that the durian tree grows healthy and productive.
